Sonic Rade

Sonic Rade was formed in 2010 in Switzerland on the shore of the Rade (Geneva’s harbor). The band is an experienced trio composed of a Canadian and two Swiss; Ricardo Ryan (vocals and guitar), Christian Fonjallaz (bass and back vocals) and Christophe Grand (drums and back vocals). Sonic Rade sound is inspired by many genres of popular music and is best described as Pop/Rock with a touch of melancholy. The guitars and rhythmic section bring a percussive and sparkling original sound. The lyrics focus on personal themes and social facts. The trio have released a debut album 'Let It Out' on the Italian independent label VDM Records in the summer 2013 and second album ”Sideways” on March 2016

Udo Demandt

Born and raised in Germany, Udo Demandt (1969) started playing drums when he was 8 years old at village events with his sister on organ and his brother on accordion. As a teenager he joined local brass bands, playing anything from March, Polka and Waltz to Folk. Later on he developed an interest for New Wave, Jazz and Latin music which lead him to study drums and percussion at the Rotterdams Conservatory in The Netherlands. Now, while focussing on Flamenco, Brazilian music and other crossover styles, his main purpose is to always capture the perfect sound and rhythm of any musical piece.

Breno Viricimo

Breno Víricimo (1988) is a bassist, guitarist and composer from the southern region of Brazil (Santa Catarina). While growing up in a musical environment, Breno starts learning Brazilian songs on the acoustic guitar. Later on, at the age of fourteen, he joins his father’s band as the bass guitarist.

“I remember spending time in my father’s studio: ‘Estúdio Catarina’ which was next to my home. There he produced and recorded Radio Jingles and albums with local musicians.”

After studying and working as a musician for three years in São Paulo (2006 – 2009), Breno decides to move to Europe to continue his musical studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2015 he receives his Master’s diploma in Jazz: Double Bass.

“As a sideman musician living in The Netherlands, I’ve got the chance to play in many musical projects where I met musicians that I feel very comfortable playing with. In one of these encounters, the trio formation (Daniel, Udo and myself) was created as the foundation for this album. The repertoire that we chose for ‘Raizes’ connects me intimately to my culture and childhood. Songs like Carinhoso, Samambaia, Loro e Flor e o Espinho represent the beauty and depth of the Brazilian composers, from the traditional Samba to more experimental music. In addition, we have music composed by Laura Polence, Lilian Vieira Grupo.”

Sophisticated Lady Jazz Quartet

A traditional quartet rooted in the sounds, styles and history of jazz, Sophisticated Lady brings a fresh approach to this music. With a mix of original compositions and new interpretations of classic repertoire this quartet has a sound and aesthetic that is both familiar and new. Sophisticated Lady formed when the musicians met during their graduate studies at USC. Fortuitously so, as it led them to embark upon a creative recording session with the arts/audiophile label Yarlung Records at USC’s Brain and Creativity Institute in its new Camilleri Hall. The session was a throwback to yesteryear minimalist recording techniques with the advantages of modern technology and yielded enough repertoire for two upcoming releases (Fall 2014 & 2015).

The members of Sophisticated Lady have shared the stage and studio locally and around the globe with such notable artists as The Manhattan Transfer, New York Voices, Wynton Marsalis, Jane Monheit, Walter Smith, Bobby Sanabria, Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler, Stefon Harris, Monica Mancini, Stevie Wonder, Take 6, John Williams, John Hendricks, Bob Mintzer, Regina Carter, Chick Corea, Alan Pasqua, Plas Johnson, Diana Krall, The Coasters, Fitz and The Tantrums, Henry Mancini Big Band and many more!

Daniel de Moraes

Born in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo, guitarist Daniel de Moraes (1971) was exposed to a wide range of music from an early age. His father was his first influence who inspired him to become a musician. Daniel's fascination for jazz music led him to study at the prestigious Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he graduated with a master’s degree in 2013. In his playing he combines textures of Latin American music with sounds from contemporary jazz.

Andrew Boyle

Andrew James Boyle, drums, lives in Los Angeles, where he continues to study with his mentor, the legendary drummer Peter Erskine at USC. Andrew also studied with the wonderful Aaron Serfaty in Los Angeles, and before that with Tim Metz in Sacramento. Andrew maintains a busy schedule teaching and performing, locally and overseas. In addition to receiving multiple prestigious awards from USC, Andrew also earned the Outstanding Soloist Award from the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival. Andrew was Yarlung’s introduction to Sophisticated Lady quartet. Please visit andrewboylemusic.nubook.com
